Best Breakfast Smoothies for Kids

Best Breakfast Smoothies for Kids

In our house, the sound of the blender gets everyone excited (especially our two-year-old). They know that a tasty treat is coming soon, and they want to help! Here are a few tips and recipes for making smoothies with your family.

THE BLENDER

You need to have a good blender to be able to whip up smoothies on the fly in the morning, and not create an insane mess to clean up. We have the Nutri Ninja Pro Blender and it is awesome because you blend your smoothie right in the cup, rather than a big pitcher. Also, when dealing with little kids that want to help, the blades are attached to the cap so you can keep it separate until blending time comes. The investment is worth it. :)

THE INGREDIENTS

Frozen everything is easy and fast, unless you have plenty of fresh on hand too. Frozen fruits and veggies are great too because you won’t need to add ice as a filler to make it cold. And if you’ve got some old bananas or strawberries, cut them up and freeze them for smoothie days.

Two other staples are unsweetened coconut milk (regular milk, soy or almond milk work too) and plain greek yogurt. You pick and choose your brands, but these are our favorites:

THE RECIPES

You don’t have to get too crazy with your recipes, but there are some fun ones to try. We always try and sneak in some veggies (frozen chopped spinach or kale) since our kids can be a little phobic of the greens at times. Toss in some strawberries, blueberries and maybe a banana and you’re ready to go!

  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1 cup frozen pineapple chunks

Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie

  • 1 cup ice cubes
  • 1/2 cup coconut milk (or almond milk)
